The boundary between ceramics and sculpture has long been debated, but few artists have bridged the gap as masterfully as Enric Mestre (b. 1936). A curated selection of his works from the Poética del Espacio series (1999–2005) will be presented, showcasing his ability to transform clay into profound sculptural statements. 

In recent decades, ceramic arts have regained prominence, embraced by multidisciplinary contemporary artists. This shift has had a liberating effect, bringing greater visibility to a mastery that was often marginalized. It also presents an opportunity to look back at one of the pioneers who paved the way. Enric Mestre played a pivotal role in the artification of ceramics, elevating the medium to sculptural art through his technical mastery and unwavering dedication.

As a leading figure of the Spanish school, Mestre’s name is often mentioned alongside Jorge Oteiza and Eduardo Chillida. His sculptural objects, though seemingly austere, possess a profound poetic force that engages the viewer in a contemplative dialogue. His work commands the imagination, urging us to explore space and form beyond the visible.

A true studier of space and volumes, Mestre has left an indelible mark on 20th-century sculptural art and beyond. This selection celebrates the master’s legacy and offers a rare opportunity to discover—or rediscover—his timeless work.
